The tens from 10 to 100

10 = zehn

20 = zwanzig

30 = dreißig

40 = vierzig

50 = fünfzig

60 = sechzig

70 = siebzig

80 = achtzig

90 = neunzig

100 = hundert / einhundert

When forming numbers from 10 to 100, unlike in English, the single-digit unit comes before the double-digit unit. When using the digit 1 in one of these numbers, we drop the -s off eins.

31 = einunddreißig

thirty-one (literally: one and thirty)

85 = fünfundachzig

eighty-five (literally: five and eighty)

Note: the number 100 can be spoken as hundert (a hundred) or as einhundert (one hundred).
